Bettws 0 - 5 Ton Pentre FOR this Welsh League match Ton Pentre handed a debut to former Cardiff City professional and Wales B international Scott Young as the Rhondda Bulldogs went in search of three points at Bettws with their new assistant/player manager. After losing their last match against League leaders Grange Harlequins, Ton Pentre were looking to demonstrate some bouncebackability and they achieved this in style with a fine five goal performance over Bettws. The first ten minutes bode well for Bettws as they managed to create a few chances but failed to score. Ton Pentre then went up a gear and their ability to play sleek football dumfounded the Bettws defence. Scott Hayward sent a perfect cross into the Bettws box after 14 minutes for club captain Andrew Hughes to glance a header past goalkeeper Mark Stonehouse. The Rhondda Bulldogs doubled their lead four minutes later when Dale Price and Carl Thomas sliced their way through the home team’s defence. Alyn Jones finished off the sublime passage of play after receiving the ball from Thomas. Eight minutes before the break Ton increased their lead to three when Neil Davies sent a long ball forward to Thomas who took the ball into the box and unselfishly passed it on for Jones to grab his second goal. The home side could have pulled a goal back through Gavin Thomas on the stroke of half time, who saw his 20 yard drive rebound off the post but it was not to be and the ball was hit into safety. In the 61st minute Kristian Orchard came on to replace Carl Thomas and was soon in the thick of the action. It was Scott Young who helped create Ton’s fourth goal during the 74th minute when he threaded a through ball for Alyn Jones who in turn squared the ball across the box to a free standing Orchard who had no hesitation in hitting the back of the net. Young was then substituted for Geraint Pitt. Four minutes later the Bulldogs made their final change when Hughes was replaced by the quick thinking Lyndon Williams. Williams notched up an assist six minutes from time when his pass reached Orchard who grabbed a second goal for himself bringing Ton Pentre’s tally to five. Next: Ton Pentre turn their attentions to the Welsh Cup on Saturday 6th November when they take their furthest trip since pulling out of the League of Wales, as they travel to North Wales for a third round clash with Bala Town kicking off at 2pm. Ton’s opponents play in the Cymru Alliance and are managed by former Colwyn Bay boss, Colin Caton. They are a team full of experience and should prove a tough challenge for Ton Pentre.
