TON PENTRE 3 - 0 ABERBARGOED BUDS
FAW Welsh Cup Competition First Round

Goals from Dane Williams and substitute Kristian Orchard saw off Aberbargoed Buds challenge in the first round of the FAW Welsh Cup as Ton Pentre progressed to the second round with relative ease.
However, Aberbargoed, a Welsh League Division Three outfit, frustrated the Rhondda Bulldogs in the first half as the Ynys Park club were unable to play their usual attractive and fluid style of football.
Despite their hard work ethic Aberbargoed did yield to Ton Pentre’s class when in the 24th minute they were left bewildered by a stunning move that ended up with the ball in the back of the net. Ashley Evans was stamping his authority on the match and his accurate cross from the right was met with a dazzling diving header from Dane Williams that left the goalkeeper flat footed.
Ton’s visitors came close to grabbing an equaliser on the half hour mark when they won a rare corner from which they should have scored at the far post, but the Buds player headed over the crossbar.
The Bulldogs played better football in the second half and on the hour Andrew Hughes dropped a wonderful ball into Evans’ super run on the right. He took a strike at goal and was unfortunate not score due to an excellent save by the Buds goalkeeper.
Soon after Dane Williams was forced to leave the pitch through injury and was replaced by Kristian Orchard.
Within five minutes of coming on Orchard found himself on the score sheet. Good pressure from Lee Matthews and Alyn Jones forced an Aberbargoed defender to under hit a clearance. This allowed Jones to cross into the penalty area where Orchard headed in to give Ton a 2-0 lead.
The Buds almost gave themselves a lifeline in the 78th minute when they broke free but Marty Ellacott was alert and saved well in a one-on-one with an attacker. The danger remained as the ball broke to another Buds player but Ton were able to clear off the goal line.
From this incident the Bulldogs responded with an immediate goal as Evans threaded a fantastic through ball into Jones’ path on the right hand side of the penalty area. He looked up and could see Orchard free at the far side and supplied his strike partner with a perfect pass. Orchard had a clean strike at goal and made no mistake with his effort making it 3-0 and putting the result beyond doubt.
The Rhondda Bulldogs, sponsored by Gus Properties and Merlin Sports, are in cup action again on Saturday 22nd September 2007. They travel to Garden Village for a Nathaniel Car Sales League Cup First Round match which kicks off at 2pm.
