The match between Ento Aberaman and Ton Pentre in Division One of the MacWhirter Welsh Football League was pure entertainment.
Both teams are tipped to challenge for the title this season and this encounter was keenly contested with both teams recognising the importance of an early season win over their championship rivals.
The Rhondda Bulldogs were quick to settle in this explosive fixture by taking the game to Aberaman through intricate passing and excellent movement.
 Richard Carter and Alyn Jones were involved in a passage of play that ended with a one-two between Dale Price and Andrew Hughes. On receiving the ball back Price looked to place it in the top left hand corner of the goal but saw his effort go wide despite beating the Aberaman goalkeeper, Neil Collins.
Ton’s play was causing the home team to make mistakes which lead to chances; however, the Rhondda Bulldogs were unable to convert despite Jonathan Kift and Andrew Hughes coming very close with their shots.
Aberaman didn’t create a chance on goal until the 44th minute when John Phillips was on the end of a nice move but fired his dipping shot over Ellacott’s cross bar.
Ton Pentre got what they deserved early in the second half when Andrew Hughes did well to win the ball with an excellent tackle in midfield and provide a dazzling through ball for Kift to run onto. The former Cardiff City striker knocked the ball past the last defender to cleanly finish making it 1-0 to Ton.
Marty Ellacott was called into action during the second half when he saved efforts from Ryan Buckman and John Phillips.
Ton were not looking to sit back on their goal as they did go in search of sealing the win with a second.
Alyn Jones’ trickery saw him take two defenders out of play to create a chance for Dale Price whose strike was well gathered by the keeper.
In the final 15 minutes of the match the action was end to end with plenty of chances for both teams.
 Nicky Hooper and Christian Orchard came close to securing the three points for Ton while Dean Morris could have equalised in the 5th minute of injury time but his shot was saved well by Ellacott.
The three points that Ton Pentre won here was the result of hard work and the playing of excellent football. These two teams meet each other again on Wednesday 22nd August 2007 at Ynys Park after the league arranged both the home and away fixtures against the clubs within one week of each other. This game kicks off at 7.30pm. Before this Ton travel to Bryntirion Athletic on Saturday 18th August 2007, kick off 2.30pm.
