Goalkeepers
Marty Ellacott
Date of Birth: 05.01.70
Marty is a highly experienced goalkeeper and a fans favourite at Ynys Park. Previous clubs include Torquay United, Bridgend Town, Cwmbran Town and Inter Cardiff, with whom he faced Celtic in the UEFA Cup back in 1997. Marty also experienced European Football with Ton playing four games in the UEFA Intertoto Cup for the Bulldogs in 1995. He is often referred to as being one of the best goalkeepers to have played for Ton Pentre. Marty’s reliable and consistent performances between the goalsposts were rewarded last season by being voted the Supporters Club Player of the Year.
Ryan Betteney
Date of Birth: 23.12.88
Ryan is a promising young keeper who signed from AFC Porth where he was A regular with both youth and
firsts last term. Has also spent time at Blaenrhondda AFC. Initially only signed youth forms but has now
also signed for Ton's Welsh League squad.
Matthew Evans
Date of Birth: 15.11.88
Matthew is a local boy who is who has also signed Welsh League forms, following a
move from Tonyrefail Welfare AFC. He has also spent time at Ton & Gelli BC. Has a few seasons experience at
Amateur League level.
Defenders
Phil Allen
Date of Birth: 15.08.82
Phil joined the Rhondda Bulldogs from Grange Harlequins for the 2006/07 season and quickly established himself as a first team regular. However, a shoulder injury he picked up while playing for Ton kept him sidelined for most of last term. He’s a solid defender that is not afraid to make a challenge.
Richard Carter
Date of Birth: 10.03.72
Richard is a pre-season acquisition from rivals Pontypridd Town. He’s a player that brings a wealth of experience to Ynys Park having had Welsh Premier Football League experience with both Carmarthen Town and Cwmbran Town.
Phil Clarke
Date of Birth: 02.07.77
Phil Clarke is a fit player who operates in a wingback capacity for Ton Pentre. The former Grange Harlequins player has an excellent cross on him and when he’s worked his way into a useful position can cause damage to his opponents. Phil joined the Rhondda Bulldogs for the 2006/07 campaign.
Mark Crutch
Date of Birth: 17.10.83
Mark is a local boy that has proved to be one of Ton Pentre’s biggest assets. He’s a cool uncomplicated defender that appears to play the game with such ease. Since joining Ton Pentre from Swansea City in the 2005/06 season Mark has proved to be a consistent player of high performance.
Scott Hayward
Date of Birth: 15.10.84
Scott has been with the Rhondda Bulldogs for several seasons but his biggest impact in a Ton Pentre shirt came last season when manager Kevin Richards moved him into defence from the right wing of midfield. Scott was outstanding in the position and proved himself to be a no nonsense player with a tough tackle.
Mike Jones
Date of Birth: ?
Mike returns to the club after spending the last two seasons with Pontypridd Town. He spent pre-season with Neath Athletic but decided against signing for last seasons champions to play for Ton. Mike is a strong uncompromising defender that attackers find very difficult to get past. He will be a huge asset to the squad this season.
Ryan Morgan
Date of Birth: 12.11.86
Ryan joined Ton Pentre from Division One rivals Maesteg Park Athletic before the start of the current season. Following positive performances in the build up to this campaign the defender will be pushing hard for a place in the starting eleven.
Richard Stevens
Date of Birth: 18.12.81
Richard is a new signing from Maesteg Park Athletic and looks to be a sturdy force for attackers to find their way around. He played in the majority of Ton’s pre-season matches putting in some commendable performances.
Midfielders
Ashley Evans
Date of Birth: 18.07.89
Ashley is a Rhondda lad who has joined us on loan from Newport County. He joined the Gwent club after being released from Swansea City and it is hoped that Ton will bring this cultured midfielder on.
Andrew Hughes
Date of Birth: 25.02.77
Andrew is a former Ton Pentre captain who makes a welcome return to Ynys Park after a spell with Pontypridd Town where he won the Welsh League Division Two title in 2005/06. The majority of his success however, has been in a Ton shirt having won numerous Division One titles for the Rhondda Bulldogs. Andrew is a dynamic force in midfield.
Scott Jones
Date of Birth: 12.07.88.
Scott is a young skilful midfielder that joins the Bulldogs after spending some time learning his trade in Welsh Premier outfit The New Saints academy. Scott impressed Kevin Richards following some good pre-season displays.
Lee Matthews
Date of Birth: 29.06.79
Lee was the recipient of the 2006-07 Players’ Player of the Year after a very consistent season. The hard working midfielder probably covers more blades of grass than any other player in the squad. His commitment and work ethic makes him one of the first names down on the team sheet. Previous clubs include Barry Town and Port Talbot Town.
Dale Price
Date of Birth: 23.07.83
Dale is Ton Pentre’s dynamo in midfield. He is a highly committed performer that thoroughly enjoys playing his football at Ynys Park. He joined the Bulldogs from Carmarthen Town several seasons ago and quickly became a favourite with the Ton fans with his immense skill and accurate passing.
Ryan Shugar
Date of Birth: 22.11.82
Ryan is a very adept midfielder who can create an opening or a chance from nothing. He’s a thoughtful footballer that can split defences with his clever link-up play and passing. Like so many of his colleagues Ryan enjoys playing his football for Ton Pentre.
Dane Williams
Date of Birth: 19.07.84
Dane is a former Blaenrhondda player where he proved himself to be a goalscoring midfielder netting over 30 goals in 2004/05. From here he joined Merthyr Tydfil and moved to Welsh Premier outfit Port Talbot Town in November 2006. Dane looked very useful throughout pre-season and should turn out to be an excellent signing for the Bulldogs.
Forwards
Gareth Davies
Date of Birth: 05.04.79
Gareth is a new signing from Maesteg Park Athletic and looks to be a powerful force as an attacker. He will cause many a defence problems this season. We have yet to see his full value as he has suffered with a pre-season injury.
Alyn Jones
Date of Birth: 08.04.80
Alyn is a firm favourite at Ynys Park and finished the 2006/07 campaign as top goalscorer. One of Alyn’s highlights last season was scoring the winning goal to knock holders Rhyl out of the Welsh Cup in the third round. Alyn is an intricate player that is capable of unlocking any defence.
Jonathan Kift
Date of Birth: 06.02.86
Jonathan is a pre-season signing from Merthyr Tydfil and has proved to have an eye for goal. The striker also spent some time at Cardiff City and regularly featured in their reserve team as well as making several first team appearances in the FAW Premier Cup, before eventually being released in the summer of 2006. Jonathan is a very mobile player.
Christian Orchard
Date of Birth:01.11.82
Christian joined the Bulldogs from Ton & Gelli Boys Club several seasons ago as a striker. However, Christian has played all over the park for Ton Pentre over the past few seasons and has proved to be a very useful utility player. Last season he came close to beating Alyn Jones to the top goalscorer award.
