Ton Pentre steepened Croesyceiliog’s climb towards Division One safety with a deserved victory at Woodland Road as goals from Steve Edwards, Ian Jones and Ryan Mogan added to their relegation worries.
The Bulldogs had not won a match since these two teams had last met on 14th March at Ynys Park. Therefore, Ton were looking to put in a first-class performance against Croesyceiliog to brush aside their winless streak.
Ton were clearly the better team and produced some attractive football in the opening stages of this match.
The deadlock was broken on 18 minutes when the ball broke for Ian Jones on the left hand side. He cut the ball across the box as Steve Edwards ran in from the right. When he met the ball inside the six-yard box Edwards fired into the net from close range.
Ton remained in control of this fixture and increased their lead on 32 minutes when Chris Jones brought the ball down wide on the right hand side of the box. He cued the ball up for Edwards to cross into the box where Ian Jones was allowed to sneak his strike inside the near post for a well worked goal.
The Bulldogs should have had the chance to have gone into the half time break a further goal ahead after Chris Jones was fouled inside the box. As he looked to control the ball deep inside the Croesyceiliog box a defender came from behind and clattered him to the ground. The Referee and his Assistant awarded a corner kick to Ton despite Jones having the final and only touch on the ball.
Ton were not as dominating in the second half but they never looked likely to concede. They spurned several good chances throughout the half to score more goals with Croesyseiliog goalkeeper John Bailey pulling off some excellent saves.
Phil Clarke came close on 70 minutes when he ran onto a cross in the box. He connected well with the ball via a bicycle kick but Bailey produced an impulsive diving save.
The home team were given a way back into the match on 78 minutes when the Referee awarded Croesyceiliog a penalty after a Bulldogs defender was accused of holding a player when they were on the attack. Jamie Jenkins scored from the spot by booting the ball straight down the middle as Richard Jeffries dived to the left.
Croesyceiliog threw everything at the Bulldogs looking for an equaliser in the final few minutes but Ton survived and scored a third goal during the 90th minute of play.
Edwards made a good run up the right and after cutting into the box he struck well at goal, however, Bailey was on hand to palm the ball out for a corner kick.
Despite not over committing themselves at the corner it didn’t deter Ryan Morgan from getting into the box from the Ton defence to head the ball past Bailey to complete the scoring.
