Ton Pentre were denied victory by an 88th minute Cardiff Corinthians equaliser leaving the Bulldogs to count the cost of several missed chances in the second half.
However, it was Cardiff Corries who took the lead in this match when in the 13th minute Rhys Yates broke clean through due to Ton’s poor defending. With just Richard Jeffries to beat, Yates applied a good finish to make it 1-0.
The Bulldogs nearly replied immediately after when Ian Jones got himself goal side of the Corries defenders but he struck wide after Mike Lewis had come off his line to narrow the angle.
In the 21st minute Cardiff Corries should have increased their lead from a corner kick when the ball was sent to the far post where George Enescu connected. He was unable to get a clean header on the ball and as a result sent his effort over the cross bar.
Six minutes later Ton equalised when Ian Jones ran onto a wayward Corries pass in defence. Just like his earlier opportunity Jones had just the goalkeeper to beat. On this occasion he hit the back of the net with a neatly positioned goal.
Both teams could have found themselves going into the changing rooms at half time with the lead as Ton and Cardiff Corries created good chances to score in the final five minutes of the first half.
From another Corries corner Enescu was left unmarked at the back post once again. Fortunately for Ton he sent his headed shot over the bar but had it been on target the Corries player would have scored.
Up the other end of the pitch both Ryan Morgan and Alyn Jones had their useful looking shots desperately blocked by the Corries defenders in the six-yard box.
Ton were better in the second half and were quick to create chances. Once such chance in the 51st minute resulted in another goal for Ian Jones. Having been played through by Ryan Morgan, Jones picked his spot well to slot the ball past Lewis, who was left powerless in the Corries goal.
Ton nearly scored again from their next attack when the Bulldogs won a corner a minute later. Liam Hutchinson floated a cracking ball into the box where Corries frantically managed to clear the ball off the goal line to two occasions.
As the half progressed Ton keeper Jeffries had little to do as the Bulldogs queued up several chances and were looking good for their lead.
Ian Jones came close to scoring his hat-trick in the 68th minute when his strike from the edge of the box looked destined for the net but Lewis was able to get the slightest of touches on the ball to divert it over the bar.
As Ton were getting ready to pick up all three points, Cardiff Corries hit the Bulldogs with a sucker punch when two minutes before full-time a shot from outside the box was powered into the back of the net.
Rhys Yates almost won the match for Corries in injury time when he was allowed to run through the middle of defence to take a shot at goal, however, the striker scuffed his shot and the ball went wide.
Ton Pentre are next in action on Saturday 28th February when they host Dinas Powys at Ynys Park for a match that kicks off at 2.00pm. Following that the Bulldogs are home again on Wednesday 4th March when Goytre United are visitors. This mid week match kicks off at 7.30pm.
