Ton Pentre were well beaten by Goytre United at their Glenhafod Park Stadium as the Port Talbot based club scored three goals to keep their sights firmly on retaining the Welsh Football League Division One title.
The Rhondda Bulldogs had a good 15 minute spell at the start of this match but once Goytre gained majority control of the ball Ton were left chasing shadows.
Goytre’s first goal though was a bit of a fluke when in the 17th minute the ball broke for an attacker and as he went one-on-one with goalkeeper Marty Ellacott his shot hit a divot and flicked up and over the helpless keeper who had gone to ground to collect.
Former Ton Pentre midfielder, Dale Price, looked lively for Goytre and fancied his chances with a shot from long range. His 25 yard strike was on target in the 25th minute and it forced Ellacott to dive to his right and push the ball away for a corner.
The home team came close again a few minutes later when another former Bulldog, Steve Conaty, made a run into the left-hand side of the box where Ellacott attempted to collect the ball at his feet. Conaty was able to keep the ball away from Ellacott’s grasp to send a cross to the far post. A fantastic opportunity was missed in the 6 yard box as a Goytre player headed the ball wide of the post.
Early in the second half Ton’s Ian Jones was able to get past a Goytre defender on the right to play a through ball into the box for Chris Jones. The youngster took an early shot that was rising which allowed Chris Curtis to gather the ball with reasonable ease.
Ton created another chance moments later when Liam Hutchinson spread the play out wide to Phil Clarke on the left. Clarke took the ball around his nearest marker and passed to Steve Edwards inside the Goytre box. He turned and took a shot at goal but Curtis was again able to make a save.
In the 70th minute Goytre were awarded a penalty kick following a foul in the Ton box. Robbie Walters was given the duty of taking the spot kick but his poor strike was saved by Ellacott and the ball went out for a corner.
From that corner the ball was cleared by Ton from the six yard box but it landed at the feet of Jacob Daly. He hit a sweet strike through a crowded box to give Goytre a 2-0 lead.
Ten minutes from full time Goytre put the result well beyond doubt when Walters popped up to score when Ellacott was unable to get a firm grip on the ball.
It almost got even worse for the Bulldogs soon after when Price attempted another 25 yard strike. The well hit shot dipped as it approached the goal and Ellacott was forced into making a good save by tipping the ball over the cross bar.
Ton have now failed to beat Goytre United in at least their last nine attempts.
